Samsung has stated it has no plans to introduce a more affordable Galaxy Z Fold

When Samsung first unveiled the Galaxy Fold, it was an innovative device packed with cutting-edge technology, priced at $2,000. There were expectations that foldable phone prices would decrease as production simplified. However, Samsung confirms there are no intentions to create less expensive foldable models.

With this, Samsung fans should probably not anticipate a more affordable Galaxy Z Fold. There have been ongoing speculations about Samsung releasing a budget version of the Galaxy Z Fold series. Nevertheless, the South Korean company plans to maintain its current pricing while rolling out newer and enhanced technologies, akin to the recently unveiled Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.

A representative from Samsung Electronics mentioned, “Instead of viewing it (Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition) as a premium offering, it’s a product meant to expand your choices. You can select based on your preferences. Currently, we do not have intentions to introduce a separate lower-priced product.”

Samsung has lagged in the foldable smartphone competition. Once the frontrunner in global foldable smartphone sales, it has now fallen to second place after Huawei. Sales of Samsung’s foldable devices have plateaued in recent years. To boost sales, the company needs to either develop compelling apps tailored for foldable devices or offer more affordable options, neither of which has been accomplished thus far.

Foldable smartphones from Chinese manufacturers such as Honor, Huawei, OPPO, and Vivo are thinner, lighter, and feature superior camera technology compared to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold options. Therefore, Samsung must justify the cost of its Galaxy Z Fold phones by enhancing its engineering and incorporating superior specifications into its products.

Some speculation suggests that Samsung may introduce a more affordable Galaxy Z Flip phone next year along with a new Galaxy Z Fold model and its inaugural dual-fold (sometimes referred to as tri-fold) smartphone. It remains uncertain whether the company will succeed in doing so, as it risks falling behind in the foldable smartphone market that it originally popularized.
